Leucadendron argenteum, commonly known as the Silver Tree, this an ornamental tree grown for both its interesting foliage and flowers. The foliage is silver-grey and covered with tiny hairs resulting in a sheen appearance. Flowering in spring depends on whether the plant is male or female. The male trees have showy, bright yellow flowers heads whereas the female flower heads are quite hard to find as they tend to be concealed within the leaves. Leucadendron argenteum typically grows to 8 m tall and 5 m wide with an upright habit. It performs best when planted on a well-drained site in full sun with some shelter and frost protection during establishment. The Silver Tree is commonly grown as a specimen, added to a mixed planting, or used to contrast or complement other plant colourings.
