Also known as | Honeysuckle, Rewarewa |
Commonly known as Rewarewa, this is an impressive NZ native tree featuring showy flowers and lush foliage. Unusual, yet attractive, dark red flowers are borne across the tree in summer and are great for attracting birds. The flowers are complemented with long and narrow leaves, which are mid-green and held densely off upright branches. This tree grows with a somewhat narrow habit to about 30 m tall and 8 m wide, preferring a full sun position and a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, moderate shade, some wind, and periods of dry. Rewarewa is commonly included in native revegetation projects, grown as a specimen in a large garden or park, or planted to attract birds.
