Hoheria sextylosa Purple Lace is a quick growing, NZ native tree that features impressively coloured foliage. Young leaves emerge purple and become dark green with age. The foliage is held densely on slender branches that have a graceful arch. The branches also host small, white flowers in early autumn which are also very aesthetic. This evergreen grows quickly to about 5 m tall and 2.5 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It will tolerate dry periods, coastal environments, heavy soils, moderate frost, and some wind, though young trees should be protected while they are establishing. Hoheria sextylosa Purple Lace is commonly included in a mixed planting, planted as a quick growing shelter tree, used for screening, or grown as a specimen.
