Fraxinus velutina Details

Fraxinus velutina, commonly known as the Desert Ash, Velvet Ash, or Arizona Ash, is a deciduous tree grown for its great form and autumn colours. It grows with a dense and conical shape to about 9 m tall and 5 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, moderate wind, dry periods, cool climates, and a wide range of soil types, barring the extremes of wet and dry. The Plant Company recommends the tree is protected while it establishes with staking and watering to produce a better structured tree. Fraxinus velutina is commonly grown as a specimen in a large garden or park, used as a shade tree, or included in a mixed planting in a large garden.
