“Purple Spire” is a popular variety of the commonly known, Claret Ash, and is grown for its impressive form and brilliant autumn colours. It features narrow leaves which emerge deep green in spring and then develop stunning purple and tones in autumn before falling. This tree grows rapidly with a narrow habit to about 8 m tall and 4 m wide. It can be trimmed as necessary and grows best when planted in full sun a well-drained site. It is tolerant of dry periods, cool climates, frost, and coastal environments. “Purple Spire” is commonly grown as a specimen, used in avenue plantings, planted around entranceways, or included in mixed plantings.
