Fagus Purpurea Pendula is a variety of European Beech tree that features a broad, spreading crown of pendulous branches from a central stem. The glossy leaves emerge deep purple in spring, age to purple-green in summer, then develop copper tones in autumn before falling. It typically grows to 3 m tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cold environments, and dry periods, though shelter when young will produce a better formed tree.
