Commonly known as the Yellow Gum, this is an evergreen tree grown for its winter flowering. Pink-red flowers are borne across the tree from winter until early spring and attract all manner of birds to feed on the nectar. The foliage is green-blue in colour and held with a pendulous manner off stiff branches. The bark tends to be rough on the lower parts of the trunk but becomes smooth higher up with a white, yellow, or blue-grey surface. It typically grows with a broad canopy to 25 m tall and 10 m wide, though can be trimmed as necessary. It is a hardy tree that will tolerate a range of soils and environments including poorly drained sites and moderate frost. The Yellow Gum is commonly used as a wind break, planted for screening, or included in a large garden or park as a specimen and shade tree.
