Delonix regia, commonly known as Flamboyant Tree, Flame Tree, Peacock Flower, or Royal Poinciana, is a tropical tree with spectacular flowers. The tree bears masses of orange flowers in late spring and early summer which literally transforms it into a spectre of beauty. The flowers are complemented with feathery, green leaves held on slender branches. It grows with an umbrella shape to about 10 m tall and 15 m wide, but is often shaped and contained with trimming. The fast-growing tree grows best in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered spot. It remains evergreen unless exposed to a dry summer or a cooler winter. Delonix regia is commonly grown as a specimen tree, used in street and avenue plantings, used to provide shade, or planted to provide dramatic colour in a topical garden.
