Corylus avellana Contorta, commonly known as the Corkscrew Hazel or Harry Lauder's Walking Stick, is a deciduous tree grown for its contorted stems that spiral in all directions. Golden-yellow catkins hang from the through winter and add further interest to this tree. The foliage emerges light yellow in spring, ages to dark green, then develops yellow tones in autumn before falling. It grows densely with a broad and rounded habit to about 4 m tall and 3 m wide. Corylus avellana Contorta is commonly grown as a specimen tree or included into a mixed planting.
