Cornus kousa 'Southern Cross' Details

Cornus kousa 'Southern Cross' is grown for its impressive flowering and attractive form. Large and showy, white flowers adorn the tree in spring and are followed by red berries in autumn which are great for attracting birds. It grows with a narrow, upright, multi-trunked habit carrying dark green leaves. As autumn progresses the leaves develop impressive shades of red before falling. It grows with a rounded shape to about 3 m tall and 2.5 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and periods of dry once established.

Cornus kousa 'Southern Cross' care tips

Care for Cornus kousa 'Southern Cross' by matching moisture and feeding to its growing season. Water deeply during dry spells while young and replenish mulch annually, keeping it away from the trunk. Check support ties regularly and remove them once the tree is stable. Remove damaged or crossing branches while preserving the natural framework. Avoid disturbing established roots or allowing lawn to compete close to the trunk. Regular checks help you respond promptly to changing growing conditions.
