Commonly known as the Eastern Redbud, this is a small tree grown for its lovely flowers and distinctive foliage. The dark green leaves on this deciduous tree have a prominent heart shape and as winter approaches they develop yellow tones before falling. In spring, before the foliage emerges the tree is adorned with pink blossom. It grows as either a multi-stemmed or single-trunked tree with a broad and rounded canopy to about 6 m tall and 8 m wide. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained, reasonably sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and short periods of dry. This tree is commonly grown as a specimen, used in avenue plantings, planted around entranceways, grown around outdoor living areas, or included in a mixed planting.
