Brachychiton acerifolius Details

Brachychiton acerifolius, commonly known as the Illawara Flame Tree, tree is grown for its unusual flowering. It sheds its deep green leaves during spring and produces masses of scarlet flowers on a near nude tree. The display is quite extraordinary. The leaves then regenerate a short time later. It grows compactly with a pyramidal shape to about 12 m tall and 8 m wide with best performance achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of dry periods, a range of soil conditions barring the extremes of wet and dry, and moderate frost though it should be protected when young. Brachychiton acerifolius makes for a magnificent specimen in a large garden or park.
