Nestegis cunninghamii, commonly known as Black Maire, is a tall and handsome NZ native tree. It grows with a stout, straight trunk up to 23 m high and bears a broad crown made up of glossy, leathery, dark green leaves. Small, green flowers are produced in spring and are followed by small green fruits which turn red as they ripen. Nestegis cunninghamii is most suited for adding to large, native plantings, including in revegetation projects, or for parks.
