Betula pendula Youngii, commonly known as Young’s Weeping Birch, is a graceful, weeping ornamental tree with wonderful autumn colours. The fine, dark green foliage develops fabulous yellow tones in autumn before falling. The leaves are held on pendulous stems which will stretch to the ground. It typically grows with a rounded habit to about 8 m tall and 5 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It will grow well on damp soils also. Betula pendula Youngii is an excellent tree for planting as a specimen to highlight its showy and weeping nature. It can also serve well as a backdrop for smaller shrubs in a larger garden and looks amazing when planted in clusters of three or five.
