Betula pendula Dalecarlica Details

Betula pendula Dalecarlica is a popular variety of Birch due to its weeping foliage and graceful form. It grows with an upright habit and boasts impressive, lacy foliage held on weeping branches. New leaves emerge a golden colour in spring, age to become dark green, then develop colourful yellow tones in autumn before falling. Yellow catkins (small cones) are borne amidst the branches in spring and usually remain on the tree after the leaves have fallen. The bark is predominantly white and provides character to this tree, particularly during winter. It grows best when planted in a full sun position on a well-drained site and typically reaches 12 m tall and 4 m wide. It is tolerant of coastal environments, cool climates, frost, and will grow on almost any soil, except at the extremes of wet or dry. Betula pendula Dalecarlica makes for a lovely specimen and is great for parks and large gardens.
