Azara microphylla, commonly known as the Vanilla tree, features gently arching branches that host small and glossy, dark green leaves. The tree becomes adorned with clusters of gold-coloured flowers in spring which produce a pleasant vanilla scent and result in grey berries in late summer. It is relatively slow growing and eventually reaches 10 m tall and 4 m wide. Azara microphylla is commonly grown as a specimen, included in a mixed planting, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, or planted to border an entrance.
