Wineberry, Makomako
Aristotelia serrata, commonly known as Wineberry or Makomako, is a fast-growing, deciduous native tree of New Zealand. It features serrated green leaves, reddish young stems, and masses of small pinkish-red flowers in spring, followed by dark berries that attract birds. Growing up to 10 m tall, Wineberry thrives in full sun or partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soils. It is ideal for revegetation projects, native gardens, and creating quick shelter or screening.
