Aristotelia chilensis, commonly known as The Maqui Berry Tree, is a small tree grown for its interesting berries. Delicate, green flowers in early spring produce dark, almost black, berries amidst the foliage through summer which are great for attracting birds. It has serrated green leaves and grows quickly to 5 m tall and 4 m wide. Aristotelia chilensis is commonly used as a smaller specimen tree, trimmed into a hedge, used for screening and shelter, or planted to attract birds.

Aristotelia chilensis Details

Aristotelia chilensis, commonly known as The Maqui Berry Tree, is a small tree grown for its interesting berries. Delicate, green flowers in early spring produce dark, almost black, berries amidst the foliage through summer which are great for attracting birds. It has serrated green leaves which can have a purplish hue and typically grows quickly to 5 m tall and 4 m wide. Best growth is achieved when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It will tolerate most soil conditions but only short periods of dry while establishing. It also tolerates cool climates and frost once established. Aristotelia chilensis is commonly used as a smaller specimen tree, trimmed into a hedge, used for screening and shelter, or planted to attract birds.
