Maqui Berry Tree, Chilean Wineberry
Aristotelia chilensis, commonly known as the Maqui Berry Tree, is an evergreen shrub or small tree native to South America and valued for its antioxidant-rich berries. It grows 4 to 5 metres tall with slender, arching branches and small, dark purple fruit that ripens in summer. Maqui thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil. It suits warmer regions of New Zealand and makes an excellent edible hedge, screen, or feature plant in the garden.
