Alnus jorullensis Details

Alnus jorullensis, commonly known as the Evergreen Alder or Mexican Alder, is a fast-growing tree that produces a broad crown of open and drooping branches. The branches host dark green leaves with serrated edges and while it will generally be evergreen, in cooler climates it may become deciduous or semi-deciduous. It typically reaches 10 m tall and 6 m wide and will grow in waterlogged soils but does prefer a moist soil with good drainage. It will also grow well in coastal environments and is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and wind. Alnus jorullensis is commonly grown as a specimen, used for screening and shelter, trimmed into a hedge, or planted in the wetter areas of a garden or alongside water features such as ponds and streams.
