Alnus glutinosa Laciniata is a variety of the commonly known, Cut Leaf Alder, and is grown for both its form and aesthetics. It grows with a conical habit and carries finely cut leaves which remain green well into autumn. Small, nutlike cones become more apparent when the leaves drop and remain on the tree through winter. This reasonably fast growing, deciduous tree typically reaches 15 m tall and 8 m wide. It grows best on a well-drained site in full sun though it is tolerant of cool climates, coastal conditions, and heavy soils. Alnus glutinosa Laciniata makes for an attractive landscape specimen year-round and is also commonly used for screening, shelter, and planting alongside waterways.
