Agonis 'Burgundy'

How to grow Agonis 'Burgundy' in NZ

Grow Agonis 'Burgundy' in full sun in a suitable sheltered position, using deep soil with reliable drainage. Choose a permanent position with sufficient space for the canopy and roots. Dig a generous hole and plant at the original soil level. Water thoroughly and mulch around the root zone, leaving the trunk clear. Stake only if needed, using flexible ties, and water regularly through the first summers. Check moisture regularly as the new roots settle into their surroundings.

Agonis 'Burgundy' care tips

Care for Agonis 'Burgundy' by matching moisture and feeding to its growing season. Water deeply during dry spells while young and replenish mulch annually, keeping it away from the trunk. Check support ties regularly and remove them once the tree is stable. Remove damaged or crossing branches while preserving the natural framework. Avoid disturbing established roots or allowing lawn to compete close to the trunk. Regular checks help you respond promptly to changing conditions.

Agonis 'Burgundy' size, spacing, and growth rate

Agonis 'Burgundy' typically reaches about 5 m tall and 3 m wide under suitable conditions. Allow at least 3 m between untrimmed specimens so their mature canopies have room to develop. It has a moderate growth rate under suitable conditions. Final size varies with climate, soil, container size, and maintenance. Allow for the expected spread when positioning plants beside paths, walls, or neighbouring specimens. Check the developing plant regularly and adjust nearby planting as its natural form becomes clearer.

Landscaping uses for Agonis 'Burgundy'

Use Agonis 'Burgundy' for specimen planting, spacious gardens, and landscape focal points. Agonis 'Burgundy' is commonly used for avenue and park plantings, included in coastal gardens, or used as either a specimen or backdrop for smaller plants. Combine it with plants that enjoy similar light, soil, and watering conditions for a practical, cohesive display. Repeated planting creates rhythm, while a single specimen provides a clear focal point.
