How to grow Agathis corbassonii in NZ

Agathis corbassonii grows best in full sun or partial shade with fertile, well drained soil that retains some moisture. Incorporate compost before planting and water regularly during establishment. Mulch around the base to conserve moisture and apply a balanced fertiliser in spring to encourage healthy growth. Protect young trees from severe frosts.

Agathis corbassonii care tips

Very little maintenance is required once established. Remove only damaged or dead branches when necessary and avoid heavy pruning, which can spoil the natural form. Water during prolonged dry periods and maintain a layer of mulch over the root zone while keeping it clear of the trunk.

Agathis corbassonii size, spacing, and growth rate

Agathis corbassonii can eventually reach 15 to 25 metres tall and 6 to 10 metres wide in favourable conditions. Allow at least 8 to 10 metres between trees so the broad canopy can develop naturally. Growth is moderate, producing an impressive specimen tree over many years.

Landscaping uses for Agathis corbassonii

Agathis corbassonii is ideal as a feature tree in large gardens, parks, arboretums, and lifestyle properties. Its stately form provides year round structure and makes an excellent focal point among other conifers and broadleaf trees.
