Aesculus turbinata, commonly known as the Japanese Horse Chestnut, is a lovely, spreading tree. In summer it produces large and upright sprays of yellow-white flowers with a red spot. These result in brown coloured fruits in autumn. The foliage comprises large and glossy, dark green leaves which develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It typically grows to 12 m tall and the same wide. Aesculus turbinata is commonly used as a shade tree, included in street or park plantings, grown as a specimen in a large garden, or incorporated into a mixed planting.

Japanese Horse Chestnut

The Japanese Horse Chestnut tree, Aesculus turbinata, is a lovely, spreading tree. In summer it produces large and upright sprays of yellow-white flowers with a red spot. These result in brown coloured fruits in autumn. The foliage comprises large and glossy, dark green leaves which develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It typically grows to 12 m tall and the same wide, and performs best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It will tolerate cool climates and frost but will not cope with drought conditions. The Japanese Horse Chestnut tree is commonly used as a shade tree, included in street or park plantings, grown as a specimen in a large garden, or incorporated into a mixed planting.
