Acmena ‘Firescreen’ is a compact variety of Lilly Pilly that is grown for its colourful and dense foliage, and resistance to psyllids. New growth is orange-red and ages to become a fresh green colour. Cream-coloured flowers are produced during summer and result in edible, pink berries. This evergreen typically grows to 3 m tall and 1.5 m wide, performing best when grown in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of light frost and periods of dry only once established. ‘Firescreen’ is commonly clipped into a hedge, used for screening or as a backdrop for smaller plants, included in pool and modern garden designs, or grown as a topiary standard in courtyard plantings or in a container. It is a very rewarding and colourful plant.
