Acer shirasawanum Yasemin is an impressive, small, Japanese maple featuring a rich display of interestingly coloured foliage. New leaves emerge red, age to olive green during summer, then turn a brilliant purple-red in autumn before falling. It typically grows to 2 m tall and the same wide, growing best in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates and will grow on a range of soil types but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry. Acer shirasawanum Yasemin is ideal for mixed plantings, planting against a bland wall, container growing, or for using anywhere the spectacular colour can be enjoyed.
