Acer shirasawanum Aureum, commonly known as the Golden Shirasawa Maple, is grown for its rich foliage. The leaves on this deciduous tree emerge light yellow with a red tinge. They age to bright yellow through summer before turning orange-red in autumn and falling. It grows with an open habit to form a crown of arching branches and eventually reaches 6 m tall and the same wide. Best growth is achieved when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It will grow on a range of soil types but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry. Acer shirasawanum Aureum is suitable for parks, home gardens, and as a specimen tree.
