Acer palmatum Scolopendrifolium Atropurpureum is a lovely Japanese Maple featuring a rich display of delicate, deep purple foliage. As autumn progresses the colour lightens and orange tones develop before the leaves eventually fall. It grows with an upright habit to about 5 m tall and 3 m wide, and can be contained with trimming. Best performance with this tree is achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frosts, cool climates, some wind, and will grow on a range of soil types, but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry.
