Acer pseudosieboldianum, commonly known as the Korean Maple, is a medium-sized, deciduous tree grown for its colourful autumn foliage. The leaves emerge mid-green in spring, age to dark green, then develop impressive shades of yellow, orange, and red in autumn before falling. Clusters of small, purple flowers are borne through spring but are generally regarded as being not significant. These give rise to winged seeds called samaras. It grows with an upright, spreading habit to about 7 m tall and 6 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, semi-sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, short periods of dry, and will grow on a range of soil types but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry. The Korean Maple makes for a magnificent specimen and a lovely shade tree and is also well suited to avenue planting.
