Acer pentaphyllum, commonly known as the Five Finger Maple, is a small tree with interesting and delicate foliage. The leaves comprise five, finger-like leaflets held somewhat densely. They emerge in spring a light green, darken quickly, then develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It typically grows as multi-stemmed tree with a vase shape to about 4 m tall and 3 m wide. Acer pentaphyllum is ideal for adding to a mixed planting in a larger garden or for growing as a specimen.

Acer pentaphyllum Details

Acer pentaphyllum, commonly known as the Five Finger Maple, is a small tree with interesting and delicate foliage. The leaves comprise five, finger-like leaflets held somewhat densely. They emerge in spring a light green, darken quickly, then develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It typically grows as multi-stemmed tree with a vase shape to about 4 m tall and 3 m wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this Maple are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, periods of dry, and a range of soil types, but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry. Acer pentaphyllum is ideal for adding to a mixed planting in a larger garden or for growing as a specimen.
