Acer palmatum Ukigumo Details

Acer palmatum Ukigumo is an impressive, small, Japanese maple featuring a rich display of interestingly coloured foliage. New leaves emerge cream-white with pink flushes. They age to become variegated with green and cream and eventually turn deep red in autumn before falling. The branching tends to be horizontal as it grows to 3 m tall and the same wide with a somewhat rounded shape. Best results with this maple are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained, moderately sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates and will grow on a range of soil types but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry. Acer Ukigumo is ideal for mixed plantings, planting to soften a bland wall, maintaining in a container, planting around outdoor living areas, or for using anywhere the spectacular colour can be enjoyed.
