“Tamukeyama” is an impressive, small, Japanese Maple featuring a rich display of stunning, soft looking foliage held on weeping branches. New leaves emerge red-purple in spring, remain this colour until early autumn, then turn crimson red before falling. It grows with a rounded habit to about 2 m tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, moderately sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates and will grow on a range of soil types but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry. “Tamukeyama” is ideal for growing as a specimen, including in a mixed planting, planting to soften a bland wall, maintaining in a container, planting around outdoor living areas, or for using anywhere the spectacular colour can be enjoyed.
