Acer palmatum dissectum Inaba Shidare is an impressive and small variety of Japanese Maple featuring a rich display of interestingly coloured, weeping foliage. The finely cut leaves emerge deep purple in spring and retain this colour through summer. As autumn progresses the leaves turn crimson red before falling. It grows with a rounded shape to about 2.5 m tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, short periods of dry, and a range of soil types, barring extreme wet and dry. Acer Inaba Shidare makes for a magnificent specimen and is ideal for including in a mixed planting, growing against a stark wall, planting around outdoor living areas, or for using anywhere the spectacular colour can be enjoyed.
