Acer palmatum Ichigyoji is an impressive variety of Japanese Maple that features a rich display of interestingly and colourful foliage. The lush leaves emerge lime green in spring, then ages with purple tones sometimes prevailing. As autumn progresses, they develop colourful orange tones before falling. It typically grows to 6 m tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, moderately sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates and will grow on a range of soil types but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry. Acer palmatum Ichigyoji is ideal for adding to a mixed planting in a large garden or including anywhere the spectacular colour can be enjoyed.
