Acer palmatum dissectum Garnet is a popular Japanese Maple owing to its rich display of colourful foliage and weeping growth habit. The finely cut leaves emerge brown-red in spring, remain this colour until autumn, then develop bright shades of red before falling. It typically grows to 2.5 m tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, moderately sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates and will grow on a range of soil types but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry. Acer Garnet is ideal for adding to a mixed planting, planting to soften a bland wall, maintaining in a container, planting around outdoor living areas, or for using anywhere the spectacular colour can be enjoyed.
