Acer palmatum Deshojo is a Japanese Maple that features a rich display of colourful foliage. This attractive, small tree bears scarlet red foliage in spring which ages to a fresh green colour in summer. As autumn progresses the leaves turn an increasing darker shade or red before falling. It typically grows to 3 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best growth is achieved when planted in full sun on a well-drained, moderately sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates and will grow on a range of soil types but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry. Acer palmatum Deshojo is ideal for mixed plantings, planting against a bland wall, container growing, or for using anywhere the spectacular colour can be enjoyed.
