Acer palmatum Coonara Pygmy is a variety of Japanese Maple grown for its rich display of delicate foliage. Leaves on this deciduous tree emerge pink and gold, age to a fresh green colour, then develop yellow tones with splashes of red in autumn before falling. It typically grows as a dense, irregularly shaped tree to 1.5 m tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It will grow on a range of soil types but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry. Acer palmatum Coonara Pygmy is ideal for mixed plantings, planting against a stark wall, growing in a container, or for planting anywhere the spectacular colour can be enjoyed.
