Acer palmatum Arakawa is a variety of the commonly known, Japanese Maple, and is grown for its rich display of colourful foliage. Leaves on this deciduous tree emerge fresh green in spring, age to mid-green, and then develop brilliant shades of red in autumn before falling. It typically grows to 7 m tall and 6 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with is tree are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It will grow on a range of soil types but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry and are also tolerant of frost, cool climates, and short periods of dry.
