Acer palmatum Aka Kawa Hime is a petite variety of the commonly known, Coral Bark Maple, and is grown for its rich display of colourful foliage. Leaves on this small, deciduous tree emerge yellow-green in spring, age to mid-green, and develop brilliant shades of yellow, gold, and red in autumn before falling. It grows with a vase-shaped habit to about 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It will grow on a range of soil types but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry and are also tolerant of frost, cool climates, and short periods of dry.
