Acer negundo Violaceum is a variety of Maple grown for its lovely foliage and interesting flowers. The leaves on this deciduous tree emerge copper-green in spring, age quickly to become darker green with purple veins, then turn purple in autumn before falling. Unusual clusters of pendulous, purple-pink flowers hang from the bare branches in winter to create a wondrous display. It grows with an upright and rounded habit to reach 10 m tall and 6 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary. It performs best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site, and is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and periods of dry. Acer Violaceum makes for a lovely specimen and is ideal for parks and large gardens where a stunning tree that provides year-round interest is required.
