Acer grosseri hersii Details

Acer grosseri Hersii, commonly known as the Snakebark Maple, this tree is grown for its rich foliage and interesting flowers. The leaves on this deciduous tree are large, mid-green, and turn yellow-red in autumn before falling. The bark is green with white stripes resembling that of a snake skin. It grows with an open, flat-topped habit with a crown of arching branches to eventually reach about 12 m tall and 8 m wide. The flowers produced in summer are green and hang on drooping stems. This Maple grows best in full sun on a well-drained site and while trees will grow on a range of soil types it will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry. It is nonetheless tolerant of frost, cool climates, and moderate wind. Acer grosseri Hersii is suited to parks and larger gardens where it is often used as a specimen with the added advantage of providing great shade.
