Acer Emperor 1 is a variety of Japanese Maple grown for its rich display of colourful foliage. Leaves on this small, deciduous tree emerge deep purple-red in spring and hold this colour until autumn. As autumn progresses, they develop impressive shades of red before falling. As the leaves fall the black red bark is exposed which adds further interest to this tree. It typically grows to 4.5 m tall and the same wide, performing best in full sun on a well-drained site. It will grow on a range of soil types but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry and are also tolerant of frost, cool climates, and short periods of dry. Acer Emperor 1 is a magnificent specimen that which is ideal for mixed plantings, avenues, using as a specimen in a smaller garden, or planting anywhere the spectacular autumn colours can be enjoyed.
