The leaves on this deciduous tree are green and develop impressive red tones in autumn before falling, and the bark resembles a snake skin. It typically grows with a tidy, upright habit to 15 m tall and 8 m wide, performing best in full sun on a well-drained site. Trees will grow on a range of soil types but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry. Acer caudatifolium is suitable for parks, home gardens, and as a specimen tree.
