Acer Brilliantissimum

Commonly known as the Sycamore, this maple is a medium sized, deciduous tree featuring beautifully coloured foliage. The leaves emerge pink, age to yellow-green before finally turning dark green with cream mottling. In autumn the leaves develop red-orange tones before falling. In summer, clusters of small orange-yellow flowers are borne on drooping stems. It has an upright, spreading growth habit and eventually reaches 10 m tall and 7 m wide. Best growth is achieved when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. Trees will grow on a range of soil types but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry. This is a magnificent specimen which is ideal for mixed plantings, large gardens, or for use as a shade tree.
