How to grow Acacia longifolia in NZ

Grow Acacia longifolia in full sun with well drained soil. It performs well in sandy, coastal, and poor soils, and is drought tolerant once established. Water regularly during establishment and apply mulch to help conserve soil moisture.

Acacia longifolia care tips

Apply a light dressing of slow release fertiliser in spring if required. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain a tidy shape and encourage dense growth. Ensure plants are not grown in poorly drained sites as prolonged wet conditions can reduce vigour.

Acacia longifolia size, spacing, and growth rate

Acacia longifolia typically grows 5 to 8 metres tall and 3 to 5 metres wide. Space plants 4 to 5 metres apart for specimen planting or screening. Growth is fast under favourable conditions.

Landscaping uses for Acacia longifolia

Acacia longifolia is ideal for shelter belts, screening, coastal gardens, erosion control, revegetation projects, and low maintenance landscapes. The abundant flowers attract bees and other beneficial pollinators while the evergreen foliage provides year round structure.
