Acacia cognata

How to grow Acacia cognata in NZ

Grow Acacia cognata in full sun or light partial shade with well drained soil. It adapts to a wide range of soil types provided drainage is good. Water regularly while establishing, then only during prolonged dry periods. Apply mulch annually to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Acacia cognata care tips

Apply a light dressing of slow release fertiliser in spring if required. Lightly trim after flowering or as needed to maintain the desired shape and encourage fresh growth. Avoid waterlogged soils as these can reduce plant health and vigour.

Acacia cognata size, spacing, and growth rate

Acacia cognata typically grows 3 to 6 metres tall and 2 to 4 metres wide, depending on the growing conditions. Space plants 2 to 4 metres apart when used as screening or feature plants. Growth is fast under favourable conditions.

Landscaping uses for Acacia cognata

Acacia cognata is ideal for specimen planting, screening, mixed shrub borders, native inspired gardens, coastal landscapes, and low maintenance plantings. Its elegant weeping habit provides year round interest while the flowers attract bees and other beneficial pollinators.
