Acacia baileyana purpurea Details

Acacia baileyana purpurea, commonly known as Purple Cootamundra Wattle or Purple Leaf Acacia, is a vigorous, small tree grown for both its foliage and flowers. New foliage is bright purple and ages to become grey-green. The foliage is adorned with masses of sweetly fragrant, golden-yellow flowers from late winter through spring, which literally transforms the tree. It typically grows to 8 m tall and 6 m wide with weeping branches though can be trimmed as necessary which will stimulate new growth. Best performance with this tree is achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site, though it is tolerant of extended dry periods, moderate frost, cool climates, and coastal conditions once established. Acacia baileyana purpurea is commonly used to add dramatic colour to the garden either as a specimen or by including it in a mixed planting. It is often used as a lovely backdrop for smaller plants, for screening and shelter, or to add colour to an area.
