"Fastigiata" is a conifer grown for its attractive foliage and slender form. This evergreen has a rigid, upright branching habit which results in a tight columnar form. The leaves are small, dark green-blue, and held densely. Tiny, green flowers are borne in spring and result in red berries in autumn. It typically grows to 4 m tall and 90 cm wide but can easily be kept to shorter heights. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, some wind, dry periods, and cool climates. “Fastigata” is commonly used to line or border an entrance, planted as a backdrop for smaller plants, grown as a screen, or planted as a hedge.
