How to grow Sempervivum arachnoideum in NZ

Sempervivum arachnoideum grows best in full sun with very well drained soil. Improve heavy soils with coarse sand or grit before planting and water regularly while establishing. Once established it requires very little watering except during prolonged dry periods. Apply a light dressing of balanced fertiliser in spring to encourage healthy growth.

Sempervivum arachnoideum care tips

Sempervivum arachnoideum is extremely easy to maintain and thrives with minimal attention. Avoid overwatering, particularly during winter, and ensure excellent drainage. Remove old flower stalks and dead leaves as required. Offsets can be separated and replanted to create new colonies or fill gaps in the garden.

Sempervivum arachnoideum size, spacing, and growth rate

Sempervivum arachnoideum typically grows 5 to 10 centimetres tall and spreads 10 to 20 centimetres wide through offsets. Space plants around 15 centimetres apart to allow colonies to develop naturally. Growth is moderate, with new rosettes gradually forming attractive clumps over time.

Landscaping uses for Sempervivum arachnoideum

Sempervivum arachnoideum is ideal for rock gardens, alpine gardens, gravel gardens, containers, green roofs, and planting between stones.
