Sedum 'Green Blob'

How to grow the 'Green Blob' Sedum in NZ

Sedum 'Green Blob' grows easily in New Zealand gardens with the proper care. Plant it in full sun or light shade in well-drained soil. It prefers dry conditions and is drought-tolerant once established, making it ideal for rock gardens, containers, or borders. Avoid overwatering, especially in winter. Prune back any leggy stems to maintain a dense, rounded form. This hardy and low-maintenance succulent is well-suited for both dry and coastal gardens.

Sedum 'Green Blob' care tips

Sedum 'Green Blob' thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. Water only when the soil is completely dry to avoid root rot. It prefers poor to moderately fertile soils and does not need fertiliser. Trim back straggly growth to keep the plant compact and tidy. It tolerates dry conditions and light frost, making it an excellent choice for exposed or coastal gardens.

Sedum 'Green Blob' size, spacing, and growth rate

Sedum 'Green Blob' typically reaches about 6 cm tall and 40 cm wide in suitable conditions. Allow about 40 cm between centres for separate specimens, leaving room for mature foliage and good airflow. It has a moderate growth rate under suitable conditions. Use the mature spread as a guide when planting beside paths, walls, or neighbouring plants. Containers can limit overall size, so choose a pot that supports healthy root development. Check the developing plant regularly and adjust surrounding planting as needed.

Landscaping uses for Sedum 'Green Blob'

Use Sedum 'Green Blob' for succulent collections, sheltered rock gardens, and modern container displays. Position it where its natural form can be appreciated and allow sufficient space for mature growth. Combine it with plants that enjoy similar light, soil, and watering conditions for a practical and cohesive display. Place it near contrasting foliage so its shape stands out clearly in the planting. A small group can connect separate parts of the garden without making the design feel crowded.
